The Advocate's Perez Interview

As if we needed any more reason to dislike Perez Hilton today, these were his thoughts in a recent Advocate interview about the recent scandal where he called will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas a faggot:

“I thought about calling him the n word,” he says over the phone a week after the incident, “but I thought the f word was even worse. I was so filled with hate at that moment because I was hated on so much, and I reacted in the worst way possible. Then I went on to make a bunch of other mistakes. I shouldn’t have made the video. I shouldn’t have released so many statements. But what’s come out of all of this is that I’ve learned so much about myself, and I’m in a much better place. I’m actually thankful that it happened. As cheesy as it may sound, I had almost a spiritual moment when I just let all of the anger and worry go and am now filled with peace, happiness, and wisdom. I could let this jade me and go back to being the super bitch that I was when I first started the website, but I’ve softened on my website and in life, maybe because I’m happier in my personal life than I’ve ever been.”

And yet he manages to dominate the gay headlines. Hrm. This is like Carrie Prejean all over again. Too much coverage of someone whose actual value is approximated at 0.

HA! Right, I'm covering P&G. Well, I guess I sort of am. P&G's highest ranking female is on special assignment until September, reports the Advocate, leaving her work life open to speculation.

Rumors have it that a couple other Fortune 500 companies may be interested in her talents -- including Playboy and Sears.

...which would make her the first openly LGBT CEO of a Fortune 500.

Funny, didn't even know she was one of us.

WEARING *WHAT* WEDNESDAY: Chris Evans

Our darling Fantastic Four hottie -- I still think his character's name is "The Flamer" -- Chris Evans was recently interviewed by the Advocate. Blah, blah, blah. He's "down with the gays" (his words, no... really), but it's kind of cool. And he outs his younger brother, Scott, who may now be the most available bachel0r in all of Gayland, USA. :-)

But it reminds me just how much I love to look at this man.

HIV/AIDS: Best President on AIDS = George W. Bush?

An interesting column from philly.com, that I think makes... well, an interesting point. Maybe not valid, especially since it doesn't take into account what the Clinton's have done since they left office, nor does it take into account that Bush hasn't really taken on any "hard" AIDS issues, like condoms in prisons... but you know, some interesting points.

Very interesting.

It is unquestionable that GOP President George W. Bush has one more to fight AIDS than any president in history, including Democrat Bill Clinton. The people pushing Bush to fight the epidemic at home and abroad are overwhelmingly conservative Christians - the same people we keep hearing gay leaders tar as narrow-minded and bigoted.

Well, those bigots deserve far more credit for relieving suffering from HIV in this decade than gay men and lesbians did in the previous two decades combined...

For years, I've been asked, "How can you be a gay Republican?" In 2008, I can answer, "Because on one of the gay community's top priorities, Republicans outshine Democrats hands down."*

It's weird and kind of backward thinking, but something that I think should spur some conversation, yes?

Kind of like Andrew Sullivan's infamous "So Sorry, Still Here" column in the Advocate a few years ago:

It’s been almost 12 years since I became infected with HIV, and I haven’t died yet. I haven’t even had the decency to get sick. I am walking, talking advertisement for why HIV seems not such a big deal to the younger generation—and indeed, many in my own age bracket. I know this is a terrible thing, and I promise in the uture to do better. As gay activist Michelangelo Signorile recently told The New York Times, “If everyone in your group is beautiful, taking steroids, barebacking, and HIV-positive, having the virus doesn’t seem like such a bad thing.”

I’m sorry. At the tender age of 41—a year longer than I once thought I would live—I have never felt better. HIV transformed my life, made me a better and braver writer, prompted me to write the first big book pushing marriage rights, got me to take better care of my health, improved my sex life, and deepened my spirituality.

Stuff to think about.

CINCY GAY SCENE: Jeff & Jen in the morning... in DRAG!

This just came across the email...

ATTENTION ALL COURTIERS AND FRIENDS!!!!

We have just been given a great honor and chance to make our Turnabout show Friday 6/20 11:30 at Shooter's something of a legend. Thanks to a suggestion from Miss Maxie Malone I entered the "Whatever it Takes" contest at Q102. Now I have just confirmed that Jeff and Jen from the Q102 morning show will not only be at the Turnabout show, but will be performing as well.

We need to pull some stuff together for them. Jeff mainly will need clothes Xl to
XXL and size 11 or 12 shoes. We will all need help painting and getting both ready. Please be there around 8 or 9, Jeff and Jen will be getting there at 10. Also this will be on the radio at some point so please come out and support the show. More details to follow

For those who don't know, this is an ISQCCBE show, which is a charity drag troupe that has raised over $700,000 for local organizations in the last 17 years. It is also a troupe I am a member of. (Link to Q102's website, and link to the contest front page)

A little bit of a personal note. I get off work at 6am, and, when I had a car, I would listen to Jeff & Jenn. I think they are funny and charming and wonderful, and Jenn's obsession with Nick Lachey... well, I'm going to say that I would want to nuzzle a little on him too (and I was dying to host a pants party with Mike Delfino's pants that she got... YUM!). The only problem -- and maybe, maybe, they will read this and hear how annoyed I am by the ongoing commentary: Jeff would constantly refer to the The Advocate "one of these magazines that outs people." I love you Jeff, I believe you are okay with the gay, but pick one up... yea, it does out people occasionally (it also allows a space for some people to out themselves). But, for the most part, it just reports on gay politics and news throughout the country.
