Sex on the Green

Queen Elizabeth II was at home at Windsor Castle, the sentries who guard her were on duty, and the large park surrounding the magnificent building was full of tourists on a Sunday afternoon.

So it didn't take long for people to realize that something was out of order when an inebriated couple arrived from a nearby restaurant and began having sex on a grass bank outside the castle, according to witnesses.

"One window from the guardroom opened up and when a soldier saw what was going on he told his mates -- and lots of windows opened up," witness Mark Robinson told The Sun newspaper.

"The couple did not care who was looking and just kept going as if they were in their own bedroom."

Japanese tourists filmed the couple, who only stopped when police officers arrived on the scene, witnesses said.

Thames Valley Police said the man and woman were arrested and given a written warning about outraging public decency.

The queen was in the castle at the time, but her office declined Friday to comment about what had happened.

I do like a good bout of exhibitionism for my evening.

UK Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy

"I’m not a lesbian poet, whatever that is. If I am a lesbian icon and a role model, that’s great, but if it is a word that is used to reduce me, then you have to ask why someone would want to reduce me? I never think about it. Meet the UK's new poet laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, apparently considered one of the most widely read contemporary poets in the English language. She also happens to be lesbian. Duffy was nominated for the position in 1999 but Blair didn't think a "homosexual poet laureate" would play well in middle England. She also happens to be the first female poet laureate of the UK.

A piece of her work, called "Talent:"

This is the word tightrope. Now imagine
a man, inching across it in the space

I guessed as much; he teeters but succeeds.

The Brits Love Michelle Obama

...as do I. From the BBC:

"She seems to be a good role model. A strong, intelligent woman. I think she'll go down very well here. People have warmed to the Obamas. I don't think you'd see this crowd for many other dignitaries," she said.

"Michelle Obama has a strong aura about her, a bit like Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis," she added.

Unlike our previous First Lady, I definitely don't feel like this one is on Valium to deal with her husband.

But, seriously, folks... is it really appropo to keep making JFK analogies about the Obama's? We do remember that that ended poorly... right?

UK to Phelps: STAY OUT

British "Home Secretary" (a position for which there is no similarity in the US; essentially, Secretary of State for all internal affairs, including immigration, naturalization, police, and citizenship) Jacqui Smith has officially banned Fred Phelps and his cult church family from entering the UK to picket a school play version of the Laramie Project:

A posting on Phelps's companion website God Hates the World this week stated: "God hates England. Your Queen is a whore. You're going to hell."

There was no evidence that the Phelps family, who tour the US spreading their message and have expressed a wish to come to Britain to preach at Speakers' Corner in London, had made arrangements to carry out their threat of picketing the play, but the Home Office said Phelps and other members of his family would be banned from entry if they arrived.

A UK Border Agency spokesman said: "The home secretary has excluded both Fred Phelps and his daughter from the UK. Both these individuals have engaged in unacceptable behaviour by inciting hatred against a number of communities.

"The government has made it clear it opposes extremism in all its forms. We will continue to stop those who want to spread extremism, hatred and violent messages in our communities from coming to our country … regardless of their opinions and beliefs."

Do you get the impression this man is going slowly insane? Do you realize how much it takes to be banned from a country? Please, I was banned from a bar for one night, and I thought my life was over.

Also, I have to wonder: was this just an excuse to be able to go to the UK? I mean, it would suck to be in that family, to have to just travel the country and picket all the time. May Shirley sat there one day and said, "Daddy, I want to see the world! I want to go to England!"

And, in his great love for family, Mr. Phelps looked down and said, "Sure thing, honey, let's just find something to picket first." No, it's not ideal for Shirley, but it was something, and she would get to leave Kansas.

Now, though, she cannot. . . and never will. It's sad really.

I think I just projected way too much.

UK's LGBT History Month!

For my UK readers -- and I know of at least one -- Happy LGBT History Month! (We did it back in October.) 

There seems to be a whole month of events -- honestly, I wish this would have been this big over here :-(.

Straight men, too, are safe from harassment

I've been saying for years that sexual orientation protects heterosexuals too, but no one's been listening... except in Great Britain.

Britain’s Court of Appeal has reversed a lower court ruling that had said a man was not entitled to file a homophobic harassment case against his former employer because he is heterosexual.

Stephen English says he was forced to quit his job at an awning manufacturer because the company refused to stop workers from calling him a faggot and other gay slurs.

Question: How does the right twist this? How do they make it about them? I'm betting it'll be some needling diatribe about how it's unfair to assume about people's sexual orientation, and how this is the just shows that the homosexual agenda has taken away straight men's god given right to wear Lycra shorts at gay events.

Jeez... these homosexuals and their Lycra shorts!
