It is not the people who purport to lead the community, necessarily, or even those who appear on the cover of newspapers. The people who consume it most frequently are likely marginalized by that crowd and reject the community outright.
Instead of assuming that the most valid opinions come from those at the front of the crowd, perhaps we should ask those furthest behind.
