Gay History: June 30, 1979

Thanks to the Dean of Cincinnati from the Cincinnati Beacon for the heads up on Facebook on this, the original wording coming from the Examiner, though I can't find other sources to confirm. On June 30, 1979:
A group of 40 people in Cincinnati Ohio who had reserved a city park pool for a gay pride party were outnumbered and attacked by local residents who threw rocks and bottles at them. Police arrived, watched for a while and then drove away. One man had to be rescued by a television news crew. Police refused to return, even after several calls reporting a riot.
I have a feeling at least one of my readers will be able to confirm this, or know someone who can confirm this so we can get an interview and learn more about the incident???

Daughter - at that point in "herstory" Mother had lived in the Nasti only a year - because I'm unsure I have submitted the matter to the Dowager's review board...to see if such folks as Worley Rodehaver, Phebe Beiser, Dr. Shane Que Hee or Dr. John Maddux might recall...

Please stand by...

Search has been expanded to Ed Hicks, Dr. Ronn Rucker, Scott McLarty. Two folks have reported in who either never heard of incident or were not in town. This may take me a while to track down since so many of these folks have passed or are now out of town...please stand by.

Daughter - I promised to put this item out for research - and I put out the call to the Dowagers.

Only our darling Phebe Beiser of Ohio Lesbian Archives offered this:

Michael,

This sounds kind of familiar. I remember some trouble at a little park (but was there a pool?) off Probasco, or in that vicinity, in Clifton.

Can someone work with that detail?
Phebe

(Note...clearly a trip to the public library is in order...but here are some entries from newspaper system for 1979...)

I remember in the early 70's the police would harrass gay people on the party boat called the Chaperon docked at the foot of Broadway. Can anybody else remember when we were arrested two or three times and we had to walk on a cold night from some place down river in Kentucky because the police boarded and made us get off the boat?
